MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (11-9, 7-6 PBC) dropped a close game with potential playoff implications Thursday evening when the team traveled to take on the University of Montevallo (14-9, 9-5 PBC). The game would remain close the entire 40 minutes, with neither team ever leading by more than 10 points, but the Bobcats would come up short with the 63-57 loss.
The Bobcats were led offensively by Enisha Donley (Loganville, Ga.) as the sophomore forward scored 21 points, one short of her career high, on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. She added five rebounds and three steals.
Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) had 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Abby Slocumb (Suwanee, Ga.) had another strong game with eight points and 10 rebounds. Slocumb shot 3-of-4 from the field and hit both free-throw attempts.
The Bobcats led 42-41 with 8:54 left in the game, but the Falcons would go on 12-2 run late in the second half to push the lead up to nine points with just under four minutes left.
As a team, the Bobcats shot 21-of-51 from the field compared to 22-of-59 for the Falcons. The difference maker was the long-range shooting, as the Bobcats hit 2-of-17 from downtown while the Falcons shot 6-of-16 from three.
The Falcons were led by three players with double-digit points. Taylor Beverly had 18 points, Jacquelyn Thompson finished with 14 and Trene Moore-Smith added 12.
The Bobcats will be back on the court Saturday, Feb 9 at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to Americus, Ga. to take on the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes.
