LILBURN, Ga. – The Georgia College women's basketball team received five votes in the most recent USA TODAY Sports Division II Top-25 Coaches' Poll. The undefeated 7-0 Bobcats are off to their best start since the 2003-04 season (11-0) and they can tie the program's longest all-time winning streak with victories in their next four outings.
Of the 54 teams receiving votes in the Week Five USA Today Top-25 poll, the Bobcats are one of a dozen teams left with perfect unbeaten records. The other 11 teams include: No. 1 Bentley University (Mass.), No. 2 Gannon University (Pa.), No. 3 Emporia State University (Kan.), No. 4 Nova Southeastern University (Fla.), No. 5 Colorado Mesa University, No. 6 Drury University (Mo.), No. 12 Harding University (Ark.), No. 18 Adelphi University (N.Y.), No. 25 Quincy University (Ill.), Saint Leo University (Fla.) (75 votes), and Virginia State University (70 votes).
This weekend's Stair South Classic at the Centennial Center will pit the Bobcats against Tuskegee University Friday night at 6 p.m. and against Limestone College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., with the latter team receiving 36 votes in the latest USA Today Top-25 poll.
Two other upcoming Bobcat opponents were also listed. The University of North Georgia, who Georgia College will play Jan. 4 and 15, also received 15 votes in the poll. Currently ranked No. 7, Clayton State University is also slated to meet the Bobcats Jan. 29 and Feb. 12.
The USA TODAY Sports board of coaches is made up of 33 head coaches at Division II institutions and they are all members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
