GC Women’s Basketball Win 10th with Strong Second Half over UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Georgia College women's basketball team (10-0, 3-0 PBC) out-scored UNC Pembroke (5-5, 1-2 PBC), 39-19 in the second half to win 68-48 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) action Thursday night. The win leaves the team one victory shy from equaling its all-time record for most consecutive wins at 11 during the 2003-04 season.
The Bobcats scored 30 points from beyond the arc, going an impressive 10-of-23 from three-point land. Freshman LaRice Walker (Franklin, Ga.) and senior Brandi McKinney (Cincinnati) went 7-of-9 collectively to account for 21 of those points.
Junior Enisha Donley (Loganville, Ga.) flirted with a double-double at 19 points and nine boards, while McKinney hit a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Walker co-led the team in points with a career-high 19, while McKinney stuffed the boxscore with six assists as well.
Georgia College was impressive along the glass with a 52-33 rebounding edge, including 40 defensive boards. Shanteona Keys (Roswell,Ga.) added eight rebounds and seven points, bringing her career total to 979.
The Bobcats only trailed for 27 seconds during the first half, but went into the intermission tied at 29 apiece.
The teams traded baskets early in the second half until Donley broke a 34-34 tie by sparking a nine-point run and Georgia College never looked back. The Bobcats would add 10- and 13-point runs in the final nine minutes to take command.
Jazmine Kemp led the Lady Braves with a double-double, grabbing 11 boards and 11 points.
The Bobcats continue PBC play at home Saturday, Jan. 4 against the University of North Georgia at 1:30 p.m. It will be Stimulus Saturday at the Centennial Center, featuring free admission.
