MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Even after the season, the Georgia College & State University women's soccer team is making the headlines. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) revealed its NSCAA College Team Academic Award Winners for 2008. The team must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in order to receive the award.
Georgia College (3.52 GPA) was tied for 14th out of 262 schools; it was also first among Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools.
"I have been so impressed with this group of ladies and the commitment to excellence they have shown in every area of their lives," Head Coach Juan Pablo Favero said "This recognition for their commitment to academics is a direct reflection on the effort and time our student-athletes have invested into their studies, so we are very proud for them. For us to have such a high team GPA with the high academic standards and requirements at Georgia College, only adds value to this achievement."
The Bobcats finished the season with a 13-3-4, 5-1-2 PBC record. The 13 wins ties for most wins in a season. The Bobcats finished third in the PBC, fifth in the NSCAA Southeast Region Poll, and fourth in the NCAA Southeast Region Poll. Georgia College also made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history this past season.
The GCSU Department of Athletics sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
