Bobcats Take Third in PBC Womens Soccer Preseason Poll
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - For the second-straight season, the Georgia College & State University women's soccer team earned its highest-ever ranking in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Preseason Poll, as they were picked to finish third today (Aug. 19) by the league's coaches.
The Bobcats were picked third, one better than last season, and behind NCAA Tournament selections Columbus State University and Armstrong Atlantic State University. As the defending PBC Tournament and Regular-Season Champions, CSU was selected first.
Georgia College received 52 votes, just four behind AASU and 11 off the pace set by the Lady Cougars. The Bobcats did receive one first place vote.
Action begins for Georgia College Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Belmont Abbey College.
2007 was a breakthrough season for the Bobcats, the most successful in the program's four-year history. The team shattered the school mark for wins (13) and junior forward Hayley Ferrell (Hampton, Ga.) set the individual season marks for goals (16) and points (34). Jamie Nevin (Grovetown, Ga.), Ferrell and Morgan Cobb (Cataula, Ga.) all earned All-PBC Team selections for their efforts. The team also scored the most goals (46) and gave up the fewest (17) in school history, while Cobb became the first all-region performer for the Bobcats.
