MILLEDGEVILLE. Ga. - The Georgia College & State University women's soccer team (7-1-1, 1-1 PBC) pulled out a 1-0 victory at home against the Lander University Bearcats (5-3, 1-2 PBC) keeping the Bobcat home turf untouchable.

Georgia College, coming into the contest as the fourth-best team in goals against average, improved upon that number with their fifth shutout at home in as many tries this season. The Bobcats haven't allowed a goal in the last 409:09 overall, and the last 587:56 at home, dating back to Oct. 27, 2007 against Columbus State University.

With just under 28 minutes left in the second half, sophomore Kayla Emerson (Fayetteville, Ga.) planted a perfect shot, unassisted, into the net to put the Bobcats on top. The strike was her third of the year.

"The story for us remains our defense," said GCSU head coach Juan Pablo Favero. "We have tremendous heart as a unit and take great pride in stifling teams offensively."

Both sides of the Bobcat play were strong with the defense shining, only allowing five shots in the game. Defending Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Goalkeeper of the Week Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) kept her reputation in the league saving a shot that could have tied the game with just under two minutes left in the second half.

The offense was constantly testing the Bearcat defense, taking 23 total shots with twelve coming in the second half and one sealing the win.

The Bobcats remain undefeated and still without a point against them at home. They are at home again Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. against Armstrong Atlantic State University.
