Bobcat Soccer Fights to Another 0-0 Tie

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University soccer team (8-1-3) battled for its third tie this season today, Oct. 11, on the road against Newberry College (6-5-1).

The Bobcats out-shot Newberry in the first period 7-3 with two shots on goal to Newberry's three. Newberry's defense limited Georgia College's scoring opportunities even more in the second half by allowing the Bobcats to get off only two shots with one on goal. On the other side of the field, Newberry had six shots in the second with one on goal. The final shot count was 12-10 in Newberry's favor.

Georgia College's 10 scoring opportunities were spread among seven different players. Senior Hayley Ferrell (Hampton, Ga.) and freshmen Leah Frazer (Mississauga, Canada) and Jessica Newland (Hiram, Ga.) each contributed two attempts to the overall shot-count.

The scoreless contest came down to the effort from the two goalkeepers who both played all 110 minutes of game time. Newberry's Emily Rhoades snagged attempts from both Kayla Emerson (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Newland. Georgia College's Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) was busier, managing five saves to maintain the shutout.

The Bobcats are on the road again Wednesday, Oct. 15 as they travel to Aiken, S.C. to face Peach Belt Conference (PBC) rival USC Aiken at 7 p.m.
