GCSU Soccer Lands Pair on All-Region Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Georgia College & State University soccer team (13-3-4) is still pulling in accolades from another outstanding season, as today (Dec. 10) the program landed its first players on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Southeast Region team.

Senior forward Hayley Ferrell (Hampton, Ga.) and junior defender Morgan Cobb (Cataula, Ga.) both earned spots on the third team.

The first all-region honor for Ferrell caps an amazing career for the school's all-time leading scorer. She had 10 goals and six assists for 26 points this season, leading the Bobcats in all three categories. Ferrell also was first in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) in game-winning goals with five. She remains the school's only three-time All-PBC honoree.

Cobb picked up her second all-region award, albeit the first from the NSCAA as she was a third team selection of the Daktronics awards program a year ago. Cobb was a crucial leader on one of the best defenses in the nation, allowing just a 0.50 GAA, the ninth-best in Division II. She added her second All-PBC award this season.

The pair of Bobcats makes 13 PBC women's soccer players on the list. Six came from Columbus State University, four from UNC Pembroke and one from Armstrong Atlantic State University.

This season the Bobcats enjoyed the best campaign in school history, setting school marks for wins (13) and goals against (10) while getting a league-high seven players on the All-PBC teams. Making their first trip to the NCAA Tournament, Georgia College also earned the first national ranking in school history, reaching as high as No. 19 as well as the best region rank (4) and conference finish (3) in the school's five years of varsity soccer.

The GCSU Department of Athletics sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, GCSU prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the Bobcats' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
