Georgia College Soccer Picked Second in PBC Poll
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) released its women's soccer preseason coaches poll recently, with Georgia College & State University taking second, the best such poll slot in school history.
The Bobcats garnered one first-place vote, with top-ranked Columbus State University picking up the other 10. Georgia College also had six second-place votes, double the next closest team.
"We are flattered and take it as a compliment that the rest of the PBC coaches would pick us that high," said GCSU head coach Juan Pablo Favero. "Nothing is for sure for any team in this conference until the end of October."
Armstrong Atlantic State University was ranked third, with UNC Pembroke fourth and the University of Montevallo rounding out the top-five.
Defense was the calling card for the Bobcats a season ago, when they went 13-3-4, allowing a league-low 10 goals and amassing a whopping 13 shutouts. The Bobcats return three All-PBC performers to the defense, and return seven former all-conference players in total.
The team invites Division I Mercer University in for an exhibition match Sunday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. at Bobcat Field. Follow the broadcast on GCSURadio.com or 88.9FM WGUR.
