INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA released its first women's soccer region poll of the 2009 season, with Georgia College & State University (5-5-3, 1-1-2 PBC) taking No. 10 in the Southeast Region. The poll helps determine the field for the NCAA Championship Tournament in November.

The Bobcats were ranked No. 10, standing fifth among Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools. Listed tops in the region was Carson-Newman College, with PBC programs Armstrong Atlantic State University in second, and Columbus State University in third. UNC Pembroke was No. 7, with Lander University at No. 9.

The Bobcats appear in the list based most assuredly on an extremely tough schedule in 2009, as the Bobcats haven't lost a Southeast Region contest in nearly a month, a 1-0 defeat to CNC Sept. 13.

Georgia College is doing it once again on the strength of some solid defense, as the Bobcats rank 41st in the nation in goals-against average (0.767) and 37th in save percentage (.839). Junior goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) continues to be one of the nation's best, listed 17th in save percentage (.889) and 21st in GAA (0.532).

The region poll is used to determine five of the eight region teams that make the NCAA Tournament. Three automatic bids are given to the three conference tournament champions in the region, coming from the PBC, the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas. The remaining five spots are filled by the teams in the final NCAA Region Poll.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m., traveling to Clayton State University.
