Bobcat Soccer Lands #5 on the First Region Poll of Season

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - After posting two shutouts over the weekend, Georgia College & State University women's soccer team (2-0) landed in the fifth slot of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Southeast Regional Rankings released yesterday (Sept. 1).

The Bobcats over-powered Queens (N.C.) 2-0 in the season-opener on Saturday, just to turn around and beat Florida Southern 1-0 the next day, earning their No. 5 ranking. This marks the first time in the six-year program history that Georgia College has made the season's first regional poll.

In addition to the ‘Cats, four other Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams appeared on the regional list this week, with Columbus State University taking top honors. The Armstrong Atlantic State University Pirates sailed into the No. 2 position, while UNC Pembroke claimed the fourth spot. The fifth PBC team making the cut this week was North Georgia, trailing Georgia College in sixth.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 4, hosting the first Bobcat Shootout tournament as they take on Catawba College (0-0-1) in the home opener at 8 p.m. Catawba most recently tied Pfeiffer University 2-2 Aug. 29.
