Georgia College to Feature “Bobcat Blastoff” Fireworks Show at Soccer

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - A little bit of extra excitement has been added to the beginning of the 2009-10 Georgia College & State University athletic season, as this year will feature a first. Thanks in part to the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Bobcat Athletics, after the women's soccer game against Lincoln Memorial University Friday, Sept. 11, will feature the "Bobcat Blastoff" Fireworks show.

As part of the Little Feet Invitational Tournament, the Bobcat contest against LMU slotted for 8:30 p.m. will actually be the third game that day. The day's soccer starts with Tusculum College against Southern New Hampshire University at 4 p.m., followed by a Carson-Newman College/Lynn University match at 6:15 p.m. The fireworks show will begin immediately after the final buzzer of the Georgia College game.

"I'm personally excited about the possibilities this brings to the campus," said GCSU sports information director Al Weston. "I'd like to wish many thanks to CAB and the other individuals involved in funding the event. Georgia College hasn't had a fireworks production before, and I'm hoping we are able to add some Bobcat Athletics fans that night. If they come for the fireworks, and get a chance to see the exciting brand of soccer our ‘Cats play, I'm confident they'll come back for more games afterward."

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) is the social and entertainment planning arm for Georgia College. Events include live bands, comedians, and movies to which students are admitted free or at a reduced rate. CAB has a year-long schedule of social, educational and entertainment events; calendars are available in the Department of Campus Life.

Atlanta Pyrotechnics International, Inc. will provide the fireworks display. Providing approximately 150 shows each year within the Georgia borders and beyond, API has done shows for Six Flags Over Georgia, the Georgia Mountain Fair, and the Milledgeville Mall among others.

The GCSU Department of Athletics, winners of the 2008-09 PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
