MARTINEZ, Ga. - Junior Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) of the Georgia College & State University soccer team (5-4-1, 1-0 PBC) was chosen as the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced today (Sept. 29).
Plunkett had a nearly perfect week in goal for the Bobcats with just one goal allowed in 163 minutes played. The 6-foot-1 business major began with one save in 73 minutes of action as Georgia College shutout Georgia Southwestern State University 2-0. She then played all 90 minutes, allowing one first-half goal in a 1-0 loss to the 2007 National Champions, University of Tampa, making four saves. Plunkett is currently second in the PBC in GAA at 0.59 and is also second in save percentage.
This is the second such weekly honor for the Bobcats this season. Junior Jessica Binkowski (Cumming, Ga.) claimed the first Peach Belt Goalkeeper of the Week title of the 2009 campaign announce Sept. 1. Last season Plunkett took the weekly honor five times.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Sept. 30 traveling to conference foe Lander University with a kick-off time of 4:30 p.m. The ‘Cats return home Saturday, Oct. 3 to face North Georgia at 4 p.m.
