Moffat and Plunkett Named PBC Players of the Week

by Katie Parker, sports information graduate assistant

MARTINEZ, Ga. - Sophomore Tawny Moffat (Peachtree City, Ga.) and junior Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) of the Georgia College & State University soccer team (5-4-3, 1-0-2 PBC) were chosen as the Peach Belt Conference's Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively as announced today (Oct.6) by the conference office.

Plunkett had another impressive week giving up only one goal in 220 minutes of play. The junior started things off Wednesday with three saves in the double overtime 0-0 shutout of Lander University. Saturday she tacked on another 110 minutes in the net, allowing one goal while collecting six saves in the 1-1 tie with North Georgia, giving her nine saves for the week. The back-to-back keeper of week winner tallies 32 saves this season, while currently resting second in the PBC in GAA at 0.53 and second in save percentage at .889. This is the seventh such career award for Plunkett.

Moffat was a vital part of the Georgia College defense this week, a defense that allowed just one goal over 220 minutes played. She made several defensive stops this week, preventing opponents from taking advantage of fast break opportunities. The sophomore has really stepped up this year, starting in all 12 games. GCSU is currently fourth in the PBC in fewest goals allowed and third in goals against average. This is the first such honor for Moffat.

Plunkett, Moffat and the rest of the Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 7 as they travel to Savannah, Ga. to take on No. 18 Armstrong Atlantic State University at 3:30 p.m.
