MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University soccer team (9-5-5, 5-1-4 PBC) picked up its fifth tie of the season this afternoon (Oct. 31) in a 1-1 double overtime draw against the University of Montevallo. Today was also Senior Day at Bobcat Field as Georgia College recognized seven graduating seniors.

The tie gives Georgia College 19 points in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) standings, good for a three-way tie for third place, matching the highest finish in program history.

After a scoreless first half, Georgia College came out of the gate on all cylinders when senior Daria Owen (Snellville, Ga.) hooked up with Megan McAplin (Newnan, Ga.) for a quick drop pass. The sophomore tapped it over to senior Jamie Nevin (Grovetown, Ga.) who found the far corner of the net, giving the Bobcats the 1-0 advantage in the 54th minute. The goal was Nevin's third this season, Owen's second assist and McAlpin's sixth.

However, the Falcons kept working the ball into Bobcat territory. During the 66th minute, Georgia College was whistled for a handball when a Montevallo ball accidentally grazed a Bobcat defender in the box. UM's Kristin Rosato took the penalty kick sending it past the diving Bobcat goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) to knot things up at 1-1.

Both teams blanked in the overtimes that followed, despite several good looks from both squads putting the pressure on the goalkeepers. Plunkett and Falcon keeper Alyssa Maxwell both snagged an impressive 10 saves a piece over the 110 minutes played.

The Bobcats have yet lose in overtime play this season as today marked their eighth overtime contest this season.

"Taking third in this league is an accomplishment considering how much better the teams are than last year," said head coach Juan Pablo Favero. "It's not what we would have hoped but now we need to focus on a tough opponent Tuesday."

Taking the number four seed in the conference playoffs, the Bobcats will host North Georgia Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Bobcat Field for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
