MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Junior Jessica Binkowski (Cumming, Ga.) and senior Jamie Nevin (Grovetown, Ga.) of the Georgia College & State University soccer team (9-5-5, 5-1-4 PBC) were named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District first and second teams, respectively, the organization announced recently.
Binkowski and Nevin become the fifth and sixth Academic All-District selections in program history. The All-Academic teams are voted on by Sports Information Directors across the five-state district.
Binkowski moved up to the first team after being a third team pick last year as a sophomore. The defender earned her spot on this year's squad with a 3.94 GPA majoring in biology. As an All-District First Team pick, Binkowski automatically gains a spot on the national ballot, in hopes of being named an Academic All-American. In 2007, former Bobcat Beth Coughlin became the first Academic All-American in program history.
Majoring in mathematics with a 3.93 GPA, this is Nevin's second All-District nomination. In 2007, Nevin was also named to the district's second team as a sophomore.
Nevin and Binkowski, along with the rest of the Bobcats are back in action tomorrow (Nov. 3) hosting the first round of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament taking on North Georgia at 7 p.m.
