MONTEVALLO, Ala. – A first-half goal was the downfall Saturday, as the Georgia College soccer team (7-7-2, 4-4-2 PBC) lost 1-0 at the University of Montevallo (6-10-2, 4-5-1 PBC).
The Falcons powered a goal in with 8:33 remaining in the first half, as freshman Taylor Kerr netted her fourth goal of the season from about 30-yards out. Sophomore Paige Scott assisted on the play.
Bobcat goalkeeper Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) made six stops in seven tries in the loss, while Montevallo netminder Alyssa Maxwell saved all six in the shutout.
The Bobcats matched Montevallo's 13 shots in the game, as freshman Brittaney Borror (Evans, Ga.) led the team with three. UM controlled the corner kick battle 5-1. Down 1-0 into the second half, the Bobcats upped play late with strong scoring chances, but couldn't get one through.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats hold on to the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament, beginning Nov. 2. Georgia College will travel to No. 4-seed North Georgia for the first round of play.
