MARTINEZ, Ga. – On the strength of a two-win week, the Georgia College soccer team (3-5, 2-0 PBC) took two of the three Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday. Junior Jamie Colcord (Marietta, Ga.) was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Taylor Cornelius (Dacula, Ga.) earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Colcord was instrumental in guiding the Bobcat defense to a pair of conference shutouts last week and moving the team into a tie for second in the PBC. She began with an assist on the first goal of the game in a 4-0 win over the University of Montevallo as her blast from 30 yards out was deflected into the net. She then led the defense to holding Georgia Southwestern State University to four total shots in a 2-0 win in Americus, Ga. The shutouts were the first two conference wins of the season for GC and moved them into fifth in the league in GAA.
Cornelius collected the first shutout of her career and played 175 scoreless minutes over two games for the 2-0 Bobcats. She started and played 85 minutes in the win over Montevallo before going the distance in a 2-0 win at Georgia Southwestern. She made nine saves in both games combined. Her efforts lowered her GAA for the season to 1.16, fifth in the Peach Belt, and her four goals allowed is second-fewest in the conference.
The Bobcats are back in action today, Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m., heading to Lander University.
