MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College soccer program and head coach Hope Clark have had a busy spring season as around practice and exhibition matches, the Bobcats have volunteered for multiple causes in the Baldwin County Community.
GC Soccer has volunteered at Café Central, the local soup kitchen, been involved with Read Across America, helped out at a Red Cross Blood Drive event, assisted with work at the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) and helped as volunteer coaches for the Old Capitol Youth Soccer League.
“Community involvement is such a crucial part of our program,” said Clark. “Our student-athletes relish every chance to give back to Baldwin County. Our goal is to make a small impact in improving lives around us, and at the same time help continue to develop the character of the women on our team.”
Housed at Milledgeville’s Freedom Church on Underwood Road, members of GC soccer helped prepare and serve the food to the underprivileged in Baldwin County, happy to give back to a community that has been so supportive of Bobcat Athletics. The relationship started through the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and GC soccer is the third Bobcat athletic group to help at Café Central.
For Read Across America, the Bobcats went to Creekside Elementary School, reading to local youth in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. The Soccer squad also helped facilitate a recent blood drive on the GC campus, aiding with promotions of the event, also staffing the recovery area.
Members of GC soccer also work as regular volunteers at ARF, helping care for rescue dogs and helping to get them responsible homes. For a few years now, GC soccer has volunteered as coaches for the local youth soccer league. GC’s student-athletes help guide U6, U8 and U10 teams for the entire spring, a great opportunity to expand their love for the game.
