Veilleux’s Two Goals Send GC Soccer to PBC Playoffs

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Needing a win or a tie to clinch a spot in the 2012 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament, the Georgia College soccer team (10-7-1, 4-5-1 PBC) beat Flagler College (7-7-3, 2-7-2 PBC) 2-0 Saturday on Senior Day at Bobcat Field.

Sophomore Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) netted both goals, all scoring coming in the first half.

Veilleux was yanked down in the box just 8:00 into the contest, resulting in a penalty shot for the forward. She went low left side, caroming off the fingertips of Flagler netminder Cristina Coca, off the post, and across the goal line.

Veilleux's second score also came off a deadball situation, as she bent a corner kick into the net from the left side. The sophomore now has nine goals on the season, placing her fourth in the school recordbooks.

GC finished the first half with three shots, two of which resulting in scores. The second half went scoreless, Flagler out-shooting GC 8-6.

Sophomore Annie Stephens (Fayetteville, Ga.) made five second-half saves to preserve her third shutout of the season. Stephens now has five shutouts in her career, tied with Kristen Moore (2005-08) for third in school history. Coca made five saves in the loss.

Veilleux's 16 career goals ranks third all-time, one behind Jamie Nevin (2006-09).
