GC Soccer’s Dalton Named NSCAA All-Region Scholar
By Molly Johnson, sports information student assistant
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Junior Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.) of the Georgia College soccer team was named NSCAA All-Region Scholar Athlete. This is the first major academic honor of this type given to a soccer athlete since 2010.
Dalton currently holds a 3.46 overall GPA and is majoring in athletic training. She received honors for All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Second Team and All-Southeast Region Third Team during the most recent season.
"The award was a well-deserved honor for Abby," said head coach Hope Clark. "She has made a significant impact on the field and in the classroom. We are very proud of her and how well she represents the soccer program and the university."
The requirements for being nominated for such an award are extremely specific. The award is not based solely on performance in the classroom but exceptional on-field performance must be present as well.
Athletes must be considered at least a junior, carry a 3.3 GPA or higher, and start at least 50 percent of their career games. National selection committees from all the levels of Scholar All-America teams vote on the nominees.
The 10th season of Bobcat women's soccer was a special one. The GC soccer program finished 10-7-3 (5-4-2 PBC) this season, capping an amazing run through the PBC Tournament with the school's first runner-up finish. Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) was placed on the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, while Dalton and Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) earned All-Southeast Region status.
