MILLEDGVILLE, Ga. – Senior
Diane Danna (Paris) of the No. 30 Georgia
College & State University women’s tennis team (10-10,
5-6 PBC) was named GCSU Athlete of the Week for the week ending
April 11. This is the first such honor for the Bobcat women’s
tennis team this season.
In first singles action the senior went 4-0, while going 2-2 in No. 1 doubles with teammate Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) this past week. Tuesday, the ‘Cats fell 6-3 to No. 12 Clayton State University, where No. 48 Danna defeated No. 43 Viktoriya Semyrodenko in three sets, 6-3, 2-6 and 10-4. In the 7-2 loss to Brenau University, the Paris native downed Lyn See Choo 6-1, 6-4.
Against UNC Pembroke Friday in the 6-3 Bobcat win, Danna beat Jenna McGary in a pair of 6-3 sets, while the French duo won 8-4 over McGary and Janna Oxendine. Sunday, the ’Cats took down a very tough NAIA team in the Savannah College of Art and Design, 7-2. Danna claimed her match 6-1 and 6-0 against Romina Mrochen. Down 7-2 in doubles against Mrochen and Courtney Collins, the French pair fought back to an impressive 9-7 victory. Danna has now won 10 out of her last 11 singles matches.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 14 hosting Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe No. 32 Lander University for Senior Day at 2:30 p.m.
