MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The No. 31 Georgia College & State University women’s tennis team (5-6, 2-4 PBC) swept doubles and took five singles matches to defeat the University of Montevallo (3-11, 1-10 PBC) 8-1 Tuesday.
The freshman twosome of Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) andMichelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) edged Kristi Kelly and Calli Robinson of Montevallo 8-6 at second doubles. The Bobcat team of Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden) defeated the Falcons’ Emily Blackwood and Kodi Bobo 8-3.
Diana took on Nordgreen at first singles and Diana once again got the better of the Falcon, winning 6-1, 6-2. At second singles, Barksdale defeated Magnum 6-2, 6-0.
Georgia College took third, fourth and sixth singles as Lion beat Kelly 6-0, 6-2 at third singles and Lingner beat Blackwood 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles. Acuna won at sixth singles 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 over Bobo. Lion now owns the team lead in singles victories (7-3).
Montevallo’s sole win was at fifth singles as Robinson took down Mosa in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 10-8.
The Bobcats open the White Sands Tournament against the University of North Alabama in Pensacola, Fla. Wednesday, March 24 at 10 a.m.
