#31 Bobcat Womens Tennis Upsets #27 Delta State 5-4

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 31 Georgia College & State University women’s tennis team (6-7) took a three-game set at third singles making a statement against No. 27 Delta State University, upsetting the Statesmen 5-4 Friday at the White Sands Tournament.
The Bobcats’ only doubles win was in the second position, as the freshman twosome of Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) nearly shutout Lisa Jamais and Tatiana Bouchard 8-1. The Bobcat freshmen got over the .500 mark at 7-6 with the win.
At first doubles, the French duo of senior Diane Danna and junior Bertille Lion lost 8-3 to Cecile Benzaki and Laura Monqin. Freshman Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Adriana Acuna (Peachtree City, Ga.) also fell 8-2 to Lucia Laws and Amandine Gourques.
Danna downed Jamais in quick work at first singles 6-1, 6-2. At second singles, Barksdale beat Benzaki 6-2, 6-4. Mosa also won 6-4, 6-2 at fifth singles over Bouchard.
Georgia College’s Lingner lost 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles to Monqin while Acuna also was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Gourques.
With the match tied at 4-4, all eyes were watching third singles, as the winner would get the victory for her team.
Lion and Laws had to settle things in three sets. Lion lost the first set but bounced back to take the match and get the win for Georgia College as she edged her opponent 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Lion keeps her lead on team wins, improving to 9-3.
The Bobcats host Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe No. 11 Clayton State University Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m.
