AUGUSTA, Ga. - The women's tennis squad competed in the Chick-fil-a Collegiate Tennis Championship hosted by Peach Belt Conference (PBC) member Augusta State University this past weekend (Oct. 2-3) as three Bobcats saw action with one winning her singles flight.
Freshman Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) dominated her competition in Flight ‘2'. In her first match, Barksdale beat Berry College's Barbara Tomai 6-1, 6-3. Barksdale beat Camila Correa of Augusta State 6-1, 6-0. In the finals, she won 6-4, 6-3 over USC Aiken's Stephanie Humphrey. The victory marks Barksdale's second tournament victory as she was crowned Flight ‘B' champ at the Windstream/Georgia College's Women's Tennis Fall Championship.
In Flight ‘1', freshman Mara Rojas (Colonia Caroya, Argentina) defeated Augusta State's Victoria Lindquist 6-7, 7-6, 6-1. In a semifinal match, Rojas fell 6-2, 6-4 to Anna Larson of Florida State College.
Freshman Linda Mosa (Stockholm, Sweden) competed in Flight ‘3' receiving a bye in the first round. Mosa fell in straight 6-1 sets to Lindy Winter of Florida State College.
In doubles action, Barksdale and Rojas defeated ABAC's Alejandra Gamboa and Keri Huett 8-1. In the semis, the Bobcat duo fell 8-4 to Mathilde Grenet and Brittany Telford of USC Aiken, who went on to win the doubles title.
