PEMBROKE, N.C. – The No. 30 Georgia College women's tennis team (3-0, 2-0 PBC) ran away with the victory this afternoon over UNC Pembroke (1-1, 0-1 PBC), 8-1. The Bobcats stayed undefeated on the young 2011 season.
May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Kim Lochner (Neu-Isenburg) defeated Mia Winterbottom and Madeline DiNunzio, 8-3. The 'Cats continued their dominance when Lisa Setyon (Paris, France) and Kelly Edwards (Roswell, Ga.) toppled Maricel Quintero and Christian Minnick, 8-3.
GC's only loss of the day would come in the first singles match as Lion lost in a tie-breaker to McGary, 6-0, 4-6, 15-13. Johnson got her second win as a Bobcat defeating Winterbottom, 6-0, 6-2. In third singles, Barksdale continued to play well for Georgia College beating Herlocker in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Lochner then defeated Quintero 6-2, 6-1 and in the fifth slot, Setyon got her first collegiate straight-set shutout over DiNunzio, 6-0, 6-0. Edwards finished off the day for the Bobcats edging out Minnick, 6-4, 7-5
The Bobcats travel to Wingate University to wrap up their weekend trip tomorrow, Feb. 13 for an 11 a.m. start.
