SUMTER, S.C. – Senior Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) of the Georgia College women’s tennis team advanced to the round of 16 in the ITA Southeast Regional hosted by Francis Marion University.
Lion defeated Lauren Trumbull 6-0, 6-2 in the round of 32 in the ‘A’ bracket to advance to the next round. Lion then fell Tracy Castillo 6-2, 6-1.
Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) squared off against each other in the second round of the consolation ‘A’ bracket as Barksdale moved on to quarterfinal round before losing 7-6, 6-2 to Britton Bignon.
Day three’s semifinals and day four were postponed due to inclement weather in the area.
The women’s tennis team will host their annual Fall Championships this weekend, Oct. 1-3 at the Centennial Center Tennis Complex.
