MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sophomore Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) of the Georgia College women’s tennis team was named the Bobcat Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3, the sports information office announced Tuesday.
Barksdale won the consolation bracket in Flight ‘A’ Singles this weekend at the Windstream Women’s Fall Championships. She rebounded from a first-round loss to pick up wins over Maddie Caropino of Tampa 6-0, 6-3 and shutting out Stefy Stand of Carson-Newman to advance to the consi final. In that match, she dominated Kylie Elliot of C-N 6-1, 6-1 to pick up the title. She also teamed with Bertille Lion (Lyon, France) in the ‘A’ Doubles Flight, advancing to the semifinals with a win over a C-N pair before losing to a duo from Clayton State.
With the conclusion of the Windstream GC Women’s Fall Championships the fall season for women’s tennis has come to a close.
