#16 GC Women Sweep Singles En Route to 8-1 Win at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. The No. 16 Georgia College women's tennis squad (6-5, 3-4 PBC) picked up a crucial Peach Belt Conference (PBC) match over Lander University (8-6, 3-3 PBC) Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Bearcats 8-1. 

The Bobcats began their dominating victory in the doubles portion of the match, taking two of three from the Bearcats. 

The first doubles tandem of Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) and May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) beat Aurelia Ruffat and Cayce Bradley 8-5, while Lisa Setyon-Ortenzio (Paris) and Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) made quick work of Caitlin Fell and Lori Flick 8-0. 

The 'Cats dropped their lone match of the day at third doubles where Eliza Adusumilli and Raissa Adusumilli won over Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and Leah Pridgeon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) by a score of 8-5. 

GC breezed through the singles portion of the match beginning with a pair of easy victories at the top two spots, with Setyon-Ortenzio and Johnson winning over Ruffat and Eliza Adsumilli, respectively. Setyon-Ortenzio won 6-2, 6-0, while Johnson took down her match 6-2, 6-3. 

Marevic continued the trend at the third slot defeating Nicola James via shutout, while Barksdale was nearly flawless in a 6-1, 6-0 win against Bradley. Barksdale now improves to a team best 7-3 in singles action. 

Pridegon would face the toughest challenge in her singles match but come out on top 7-5, 6-2 over Flick. Rounding out the scoring for the 'Cats was Lingner who took down Raissa Adsumilli 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the victory. 

The GC women will look to build on this vital PBC match when they host Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m.
