MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Junior women’s tennis player Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) has been named Georgia College Athlete of the Week, as announced by the sports information office Tuesday afternoon.
Barksdale was a bright spot for the Bobcats this week, going a perfect 2-0 in singles action while splitting her pair of doubles matches.
In GC’s 9-0 victory over West Georgia, she was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 rout of Kelly Arsenault at the second singles slot after pairing with Lisa Setyon-Ortenzio (Paris) in an 8-0 win at the top doubles position.
Barksdale then picked up the Bobcats’ lone victory in an 8-1 loss to Brenau University, taking down Hannah Thompson 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth singles slot.
This marks the first such accolade for a women’s tennis player and fourth overall during the 2011-12 season, as she joins Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France), Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) and Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) of the men’s squad.
