Bobcat Women Finish Fourth in PBC Tournament, Drop Third Place Match 5-0
FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 5-seed Georgia College women's tennis team (15-11) finished their run in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Sunday afternoon taking on the No. 3-seed Francis Marion University (22-3) in the third place match. The Bobcats dropped the match 5-0, finishing in fourth place.
A whirlwind weekend, the Bobcats completed three matches in a 48-hour span.
Michelle Linger (Dundwoody, Ga.) and Sarah Murray (Alpharetta, Ga.) faced off against Kimberley Hunter and PBC Freshman of the Year Lena Specht in the third doubles slot. The Bobcat duo scored numerous points, but fell 8-1.
Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) battled back from down 4-1 to force a tiebreaker at 8-8 against Tereza Baranova and Nora Westbye. The Bobcat comeback would fall short, as the Patriots would win the tiebreaker 7-2.
The Bobcats entered singles play down 3-0 despite two very close doubles matches. Murray faced off against Westbye in the sixth singles position and was felled 6-0, 6-0. Lingner took on Specht and dropped the match 6-0, 6-0.
The Bobcats now await seeding for the NCAA Tournament, set to begin Saturday, April 27. Georgia College will be vying for an at-large bid to make NCAA postseason play for the 19th straight season.
