MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) was awarded the Bobcat Athlete of the Week after her performances with the Georgia College women's tennis team (15-11) this week at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
Barksdale earned a victory in singles play and doubles against the Clayton State University Lady Lakers.
Barksdale and her partner Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) secured a convincing 8-2 win over Ivana Krommelova and Hannah Kelling. Barksdale went on to conquer Martina Dedaj 6-1, 6-0 in the third singles position.
The No. 5-seed Bobcats finished their run at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon. Georgia College lost 5-0 in the third place match to No. 3-seed Francis Marion University (22-3). The GC women's tennis team finished fourth in the tournament, No. 7 in the region and No. 42 in the nation.
The Bobcats now await seeding for the NCAA Tournament, set to begin Saturday, April 27. Georgia College will be vying for an at-large bid to make NCAA postseason play for the 19th straight season.
