MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College women's tennis freshmen Macy and Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) both had a great start to their collegiate careers, each getting a singles championship and a doubles title at the 2013 GC Women's Fall Championships Saturday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
Macy Polk picked up her singles title in Flight A, nearly blanking Shelby Bickel of UNC Pembroke 6-1, 6-0, advancing to the finals. Macy Polk toppled Bickel's teammate Leigh Anne McAfee 6-2, 6-1 for the Flight A title.
Bobcat freshmen Cristalei Polk and Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee, Ga.) each got semifinal wins this morning before meeting in the finals. Cristalei beat Lander University's Cayce Bradley 6-1, 7-5 and Serdinia added a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Wingate University's Becca Thomas. Cristalei took out Serdinia in the finals 6-1, 6-0.
In round-robin doubles group one, Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and Serdinia lost a hard-fought 9-8 battle to UNCP's Bickel and Hannah Herlocker.
The Polk sisters finished a clean sweep of doubles play in group two, shutting out Caroline Holland and Layla Tanik of Wingate.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 27 at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship in Sumter, S.C.
