Bobcat Women Pick up NCAA Tournament Win, 5-1

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 6-seed Georgia College women's tennis team (19-7) upset No. 3-seed Flagler College (16-5) 5-1 Sunday to open up the NCAA Southeast Regional #2 for the Bobcats.

Georgia College had a 2-1 lead after doubles, then swept singles action. The Bobcats advance to play host Columbus State University tomorrow.

"I'm very proud of the effort from the girls today," said head coach Steve Barsby. "They have continued to work hard throughout the year. Hopefully we can continue to play well tomorrow in the final."

The second slot was the first doubles match to finish, as Macy Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Hannah Serdinia (Suwanee, Ga.) made short work of Thaisa Pereira and Barbora Sebkova 8-1. The Bobcat freshman duo is now 8-3 on the year.

The lead stretched to 2-0 after Katie Krupp (Evans, Ga.) and Cristalei Polk (Powder Springs, Ga.) won an 8-6 nail-biter in the third slot over Krista Ingrilli and Kelly Stewart. The third doubles group owns the best active record for Georgia College at 10-1, including seven in a row.

The Saints picked up their first and final point of the match in first doubles, when Camille Clausse-Pujo (Bourdeaux, France) and Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) gave Esther Santiago and Hanna Goettsching all they could handle in an 8-6 bout.

The first two singles results came in nearly simultaneously, as Macy Polk beat Sebkova 6-2, 6-0 in first singles and Krupp topped Anika Cohen 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth slot. Macy Polk improves to 16-7, while Krupp now owns a 13-5 singles mark.

With Flagler's backs against the wall, the four remaining singles matches were all one-set leads for the Bobcats. Cristalei Polk finished the Saints' season with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Goettsching in fourth singles. Cristalei Polk possesses the team's best singles mark at 19-5.

The Bobcats advance to play host No. 2-seed Columbus State University tomorrow, May 5 at 1:30 p.m. The Cougars (20-4) dispatched Erskine College 5-0 in today's action.
