MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sweeping singles action,the Georgia College women's Tennis team (6-2) clobbered Emmanuel College (5-5) 8-1 Tuesday at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
Georgia College nabbed two of three doubles points. The nation's No. 16 pairing of Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville) and Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain) improved to 7-1 by beating Fantine Botella and Chloe O'Connor, 9-8.
In second doubles, Kristen Jones (Marietta) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) got their first win in their second match as a pairing, shutting out Katharina Kiderlen and Maria Raich. The only blemish for the Bobcats today came in third doubles, where Emma Niemi (Cumming) and Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) came up short 8-3 to Pearllan Cipriano and Victoria Silva.
Singles results came first in the fourth slot, where Jones beat Silva 6-3, 6-0. In the second line, Lopez controlled Cipriano by a 6-2, 6-1 score. The team-victory clinching point came from No. 33 Kelly in the top slot, beating Botella 6-0, 7-6.
In third singles, Richter took three sets to get past Raich 6-7, 6-1, 10-4, then Garriga posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kiderlen. Both Garriga and Richter improved to perfect 8-0 records in singles with their respective wins today. Niemi closed the day with a 7-5, 6-4 win over O'Connor.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 14 at 2 p.m. playing host to Concord University.
