#39 Bobcat Women’s Tennis Comes Up Short to #2 West Florida, 5-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 39 Georgia College Women's Tennis (7-5) could only muster a doubles victory in a 5-1 loss at No. 2 University of West Florida (15-0) Wednesday to close the West Florida Tournament.

The Bobcats got their point in second doubles, where Kristen Jones (Marietta, Georgia) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) took down Heather Mixon and Samantha Echevarria 8-4.

In first doubles, Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville, Georgia) and Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain) lost to No. 4 duo Jordana Lujan and Paula Coyos 8-3. Third doubles was a loss for Emma Niemi (Cumming, Georgia) and Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) to Ines Nicault and Diana Vlad 9-7.

The Argos swept the three singles matches to get their five team points. In second doubles, Nicault defeated Lopez 6-3, 6-2. Mixon topped No. 75 Garriga 6-2, 6-2 in the fifth line, and No. 5 Coyos beat No. 20 Kelly 6-2, 6-1 to close the day.

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, March 27 at 2 p.m., playing host to the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
