GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 31 Georgia College Women's Tennis team (12-5, 6-1 PBC) extended a win streak to five in a row with an 8-1 victory at Lander University (7-10, 1-8 PBC) Tuesday.
The Bobcats swept doubles play, allowing just seven games to slip by. Jena Kelly (Lawrenceville, Georgia) and Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain) teamed for an 8-1 win in the first slot over Eduarda Ferreira and Isabella Schulz. The Bobcat duo is 10-6 this season.
In second doubles, Kristen Jones (Marietta) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) got an 8-2 win over Lindsey Wiggins and Nelli Lius. In third doubles, Emma Niemi (Cumming, Georgia) and Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) topped Lucia Ric and Caroline Yodice 8-4.
Richter kept her perfect singles mark, beating Yodice 6-1, 6-0 to improve to 14-0. Garriga then clinched the team win in fifth singles, controlling Schulz 6-1, 6-3 in the fifth slot. Garriga shares the team lead with 14 victories. Lopez nearly shut out Lius 6-1, 6-0 to even her record at 8-8.
In fourth singles, Jones increased her win streak to eight with a 6-2, 6-1 effort over Wiggins. Niemi beat Manasi Ramadani 6-4, 6-3 in sixth singles, and No. 43 Kelly fell to Ferreira 6-7, 7-6, 10-4 in the first slot.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday, April 12 at 4 p.m., traveling to No. 4 Columbus State University.
