#25 Bobcat Women’s Tennis Stumbles against #8 Nova Southeastern

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Taking on their first ranked opponent of the young season Saturday, No. 25 Georgia College Women's Tennis (2-1) suffered their first blemish, falling to No. 8 Nova Southeastern University (3-0) 7-0 at Valdosta State University.

The Bobcats were swept in doubles to start off by dropping that point. Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) and Emma Fleming (Suwanee) fell to Diane Follin-Arbelet and Isabella Lowrey in the third slot, 6-1. The other two scores came in at 6-3 losses, as Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain) and Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) came up short against the No. 12 pairing of Ana Navas and Daniela Obando. Paula Garriga (Barcelona, Spain) and Jordan Bowie (Macon) also lost to Sarah Wardenburg and Natalie Espinal in second doubles.

In singles action, No. 13 Espinal kept the run going in the second slot against Lopez with 6-0, 6-1 sets. No. 9 Navas then took down Richter 6-1, 6-3 in first singles. The team score was decided in the sixth slot, where Bowie dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Chantal Nosievici.

In fifth singles, Fleming lost to Follin-Arbelet 6-3, 6-2 then Garriga lost to Wardenburg 6-2, 6-4. The match then closed in third singles with a 6-1, 6-4 loss for Yatribi to Obando.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 15 as they travel to Newberry, South Carolina to take on No. 19 Queens University at 1 p.m.
