COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Georgia College volleyball team (4-17, 1-10 PBC) took Columbus State University (14-7, 6-4 PBC) to the limit Friday night, but was unable to close out the match, falling in five sets.
The Bobcats kicked off the match, taking the first set 25-21 and then rallying with momentum to take the third set 25-13. Unfortunately, it was not enough to stop Columbus State as they took the second and fourth set 25-20 and the fifth set 15-11.
Rachel Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.) was the only Bobcat that had double-digit kills with 12. She had help from Caroline Long (Roswell, Ga.) with eight and Rachel Rice (Johns Creek, Ga.) with seven.
Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) once again led to the Bobcats with 28 digs. Rice contributed 11 digs, narrowly missing her second career double-double. Ella Anastasiadas (Atlanta) added 10 digs. Setter Micayla Patterson (Tyrone, Ga.) finished with 35 assists.
The Bobcats were outmatched tonight in kill percentage as they were out-hit .124 to Columbus State's .204. The Bobcats' best hitting effort came in the third set at .370. The Cougars had two with double-digit kills, led by Katie Poole with 18 and Erika Gelzinyte with 15.
The loss puts the Bobcats at 1-10 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, tied for ninth in the conference standings. The top eight advance to play in November's PBC Tournament.
The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. on the road against the University of Montevallo (14-6, 7-3 PBC). The Bobcats got a five-set win over the Falcons at home Sept. 13.
