MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Senior Virginia Balkcom (Fayetteville, Ga.) of the Georgia College & State University women's cross country team was named GCSU Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 25, the sports information office announced today (Oct. 27). This is the first such honor for Balkcom and the third for the Bobcat women's harriers this season.
Balkcom ran to All-PBC status by taking 10th overall this week at the PBC Championships in Lumberton, N.C. In a 6K race, she crossed the line in 24:19, a personal best and the No. 3 time in school history. The Bobcats finished second as a team, the top conference finish in the history of Georgia College women's cross country.
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 7 at the NCAA Southeast Region Championship in Wingate N.C.
