Bobcat Women Take Third Under Destiche Lead

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior Dani Destiche (Snellville, Ga.) finished ninth overall to lead the Georgia College & State University women's cross country team to a third place finish at the Mercer RunFit Sports Invitational Saturday. Destiche finished her 5k run in 20:40, leading the Bobcats for the second time in as many races.

Behind Destiche, junior Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) took 13th place at 21:05. Junior Sarah Balkcom (Fayetteville, Ga.) finished 16th at 21:15 with rookie teammate Andrea Byrnes (Snellville, Ga.) right behind in 17th with a 21:16 finish.  Freshman Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) finished off the top five in 19th (21:19).
The Bobcats tallied 74 team points total, while Mercer University finished with only 21 team points to end in first place. The individual medalist, Kacie Niemann, was on Mercer's first place team completing her race in 19:20.
The Bobcats next meet is Saturday, Sept. 25 at the 30th Annual Will Wilson Citadel Invitational in Charleston, S.C.
