Bobcat Women Harriers Take Third at Citadel Meet

CHARLESTON, S.C. – With nearly three top-20 finishers, the Georgia College & State University women's cross country team took third Saturday at the Will Wilson Invitational in the non-Division I portion on the race at the Citadel.

 

Freshman Allison Lones (Kathleen, Ga.) was the top runner for Georgia College for the first time in her rookie campaign, finishing the 5K course in 20:44 for ninth place.

 

Junior Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) was second on the squad, finishing in 21:05 and 15th overall. Classmate Sarah Balkcom (Fayetteville, Ga.) crossed the line in 21:29, narrowly missing the top-20 by one slot.

 

Freshman Andrea Byrnes (Snellville, Ga.) was 26th in 21:55, and classmate Ashton Passino (Alpharetta, Ga.) took 30th in 22:10.

 

Lenoir-Rhyne University took the team title among non-Division I squads, getting 57 points, beating SCAD by 31 and the Bobcats by 42. LRU's Kate Griewisch won the individual title in 18:35.

 

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 1 at the ASU Invitational, hosted by Augusta State University.
