Georgia College Womens Cross Country Slotted Fourth in PBC Poll
MARTINEZ, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) office announced the Preseason Women’s Cross Country Coaches Poll Wednesday, with Georgia College & State University taking fourth.
Georgia College surprised the conference with a second-place finish in last year’s PBC Championships, led by Virginia Balkcom as an All-PBC Second Team honoree. Just three seniors, Heather Raines, Alycia Hayes and Balkcom were in that PBC Runner-Up race, so the Bobcats will look to be in the hunt again in 2010. Senior Dani Destiche (Snellville, Ga.) and junior Karissa Ekstrom (Alpharetta, Ga.) will look to lead the 2010 campaign.
Defending PBC Champion Columbus State University earned the top spot in the poll, with Augusta State University in second. Clayton State University was third, with UNC Pembroke rounding out the top five. Georgia College got one second-place vote and two third-place nods.
The Bobcats start the 2010 campaign at home, hosting the Bobcat Invitational Friday, Sept. 10 at 4:30 p.m.
The Georgia College Department of Athletics, back-to-back winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level.
