Bobcat Baseball Slips by GSW, 6-5

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (10-7, 4-3 PBC) picked up its 10th win of the season in a 6-5 edging of Georgia Southwestern State University (6-13, 2-7 PBC) Friday night at John Kurtz Field.

A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning plated the go-ahead run in the form of Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.).

The Bobcats controlled the majority of the game after taking their first lead of 3-2 in the bottom of the second. The big blow in that inning was a two-run single by Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.).

GSW made it 5-5 in the top of the eighth after an RBI single and a sacrifice fly plated two runs.

In the bottom half, Anderson reached on a one-out single through the right side. A pair of walks sandwiched another out to load the bases with two down. Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) watched four pitches miss the target to bring in the winning run.

Sandlin finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Anderson did him one better at three hits in four trips, scoring three times. Leftfielder Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) had a pair of hits in four trips with a run and Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) extended his hit streak to 15 games with a 2-for-3 game, driving in two.

Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.) got the win (1-0) with an inning of scoreless relief, Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) tallying his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth. Hurricane reliever Earl Dupree (0-4) took the loss. Third baseman Josh Sanders had three hits and an RBI in his leadoff spot for GSW.

The Bobcats finish the three-game set with doubleheader action tomorrow, March 9 at 1 p.m.
