Bobcat Golf Trending Upward at Matlock Classic

LAKELAND, Fla. – Jumping four spots from round one, the Georgia College Golf team sits ninth after two rounds at the 38th Annual Matlock Collegiate Classic, hosted by Florida Southern College. Georgia College carded rounds of 305 and 289 to enter the clubhouse at plus-18 on the par-72, 7,065-yard Lone Palm Golf Club.

Junior Austin Mancilla (Lawrenceville, Georgia) leads the way for the Bobcats at eighth overall in the 75-golfer field after rounds of 73 and 69. Mancilla is two-under, posting eight birdies on the day.

Tied for 38th overall is sophomore Daniel Davis (Columbus, Georgia) and freshman Hilton Beck (Macon, Georgia). Davis has rounds of 79 and 71 for six-over par, while Beck has a 78 and 72. Davis was incredibly consistent in round two, not carding a single bogey. Beck had five total birdies on the day.

Junior Drew Duffie (Evans, Georgia) is 54th at plus-10 with a pair of 77s. Freshman Isaac Samples (Loganville, Georgia) rounds out the Bobcat lineup in 60th at 11-over.

Of the eight teams ahead of Georgia College, seven are ranked in the nation's top-25. No. 3 Lynn University leads the tournament at nine-under, 11 strokes ahead of second-place holder No. 6 West Florida. Also ahead of the Bobcats is No. 1 Barry University, No. 7 host FSC, No. 10 Nova Southeastern University, No. 13 Limestone College and No. 25 Cal State-Monterey Bay.

The Bobcats are ahead of ranked squads in No. 2 Florida Tech, No. 5 Saint Leo University and No. 23 Rollins College.

The third and final round begins tomorrow, Feb. 12, as the Bobcats will be teamed with golfers from NSU and the Limestone for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
