GC Softball Adds Lumpkin County Shortstop

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College softball program and head coach Jamie Grodecki announced the signing of Frankie Walls Friday.

Walls started every game at shortstop for Lumpkin County High under head coach Shana Estes. This past season, she hit .500, stole 18 bases and posted an on-base percentage of .556. No stranger to the extra-base hit, adding a slugging percentage of .609.

“I am very excited about adding Frankie to our roster this coming fall,” said Grodecki. “She is a multi-tool athlete, with speed, a good arm and a strong bat. She will help us on both sides of the ball and is a great kid that can come in a compete for a starting position as a freshman.”

The daughter of Jim Walls and Lena Rider, Walls plans to major in biology.

The Bobcats had a strong finish to a sub-par season in 2011, winning three of their last four to get into the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) playoffs, then upsetting No. 3-seed Columbus State University in the first round. The 'Cats will bring back three All-PBC performers next year in Haley Burnett (Columbus, Ga.), Anna Parker (Columbus, Ga.) and Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw, Ga.).
