No. 16 Bobcat Women Fall to No. 8 Argos, 6-3

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 16 Georgia College women's tennis squad (7-7) dropped a non-conference match Tuesday against the No. 8 University of West Florida Argos (11-5), 6-3.

Ivana Marevic (Rottweil, Germany) and Leah Pridegon (Lawrenceville, Ga.) started off the day stumbling in the second slot against Barbara Oliveira and Mariana Sonnervig, 8-1. May Johnson (Sydney, Australia) and Sarah Roberts (Kennesaw, Ga.) fell in the third position 8-4 to Fernanda Amaral and Hannah Durham.

The Argos' Caitlyn Baines and Sheila Smiley defeated Kayla Barksdale (Augusta, Ga.) and Lisa Setyon-Ortenzio (Paris) in a tight knit battle 8-4 as the Bobcats entered singles play down 3-0.

Setyon-Ortenzio dropped her singles match to No. 14 Oliveira, 6-3 and 6-1. Johnson then picked up a win over West Florida's Sonnervig, 6-4, 6-4. Marevic destroyed Smiley in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at the third slot. Johnson improves to 8-4 in her junior campaign, positioned third on the team in singles wins. Marevic gets over .500 with the singles victory at 7-6.

Barksdale played Baines and won in a marathon, 2-6, 7-6, 10-4 taking over the team lead in wins at 10-4, including a perfect 5-0 in non-conference play. Pridgeon played in the five slot and stumbled against Higa, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Anna Hicks (Brunswick, Ga.) made her Bobcat debut but was downed by Durham in a shutout.

GC plays again Thursday morning in sunny Pensacola against No. 44 University of North Alabama set to start at 10 a.m.
