McCORMICK, S.C. | The Georgia College & State University men's golf team is in fifth place after the first day of the Savannah Lakes Men's Invitational Monday (Sept. 15).

GCSU shot rounds of 285 and 279 on the par 72. 7,032-yard layout on the Monticello Golf Club and stands at 564 (12-under par) after 36 holes. The nine-under par score in the second round was the lowest 18-hole score by the Bobcats since they shot eight-under par in the first round of the UNG Fall Invitational in October 2018.

The University of South Carolina-Aiken leads the 17-team field at 546, 14 strokes better than second-place University of North Georgia.

GCSU teammates Brady Schnaible and Andy Scott are tied for 15th at four-under par 140 after 36 holes. Schnaible carded under-par rounds of 71 and 69, while Scott carded an even-par 72 in the morning followed by a four-under par 68.

Mason Pate is tied in 25th place at two-under par 142 with scorecards of even-par 72 and two-under par 70, while Andrew Lutjens is tied for 30th at one-under par 143. Lutjens carded rounds of two-under par 70 and a one-over par 73. 

Chase Blanton is tied for 62nd place at 148 after shooting a 76 in the morning and an even-par 72 in the afternoon. Jimmy Coleman, who was playing as an individual for the Bobcats, is in 102nd place at 158 after rounds of 76 and 82.

The 54-hole tournament concludes with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday (Sept. 16).
