MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- The No. 21 Georgia
College & State University (10-1-3) soccer team defeated the
Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters (10-2-1) 2-1 today in
chilly Harrogate, Tenn.
The Bobcats came out early, scoring just 1:49 into the first
half with sophomore Kayla Emerson
(Fayetteville, Ga.) and her fifth goal of the season. The
goal was assisted by senior Hayley Farrell
(Hampton, Ga.) who gave Emerson a perfect long pass to the
right-front of the goal.
The Railsplitters out-shot the Bobcats two-fold (10 shots to
five) in the first half but couldn't find the net to get it by
Mary
Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.). She finished with six
saves in the winning effort.
Georgia College strengthened their lead, and eventually the win,
in the second half at 70:43 when junior Jeni Day (Marietta,
Ga.) tacked on her fourth goal of the season. Day was set
up from a deflected shot by Kelli McLane
(Lawrenceville, Ga.) who gets her first assist of the
season.
LMU tried to catch the Bobcats taking another six shots in the
second half but only landed one in the net with 2:19 left in the
game. LMU's Sarah Taylor cut the lead in half, but they could get
it no closer. The win gives the Bobcats 10 victories for the
second-straight season.
The Bobcats return to West Campus for their last home game of
the season, Senior Day, against Clayton State University at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 22.
