MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - No. 20 Georgia College & State
University soccer team (11-1-3, 4-1-1 PBC) shut-out Clayton State
University (1-13-1, 1-6 PBC) 6-0 for Senior Night at Bobcat Field.
Senior forward Hayley Ferrell
(Hampton, Ga.) came ready to play tonight with two assists
and two goals contributing to the 10th shutout of the season, a
school record. She leads the Bobcats with nine goals and five
assists for the season.
The first goal of the night came during the 13th minute from
junior Jamie Nevin (Grovetown,
Ga.), her first of the season. Nevin's goal was the only
one in the first half Laker goalkeeper Whitney Jowers allowed. She
snagged three Georgia College shots in the first period.
The Bobcat defense was lights out allowing only two shots from
the Lakers all night, both coming in the second period. Sophomore
Mary
Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) occupied the Georgia
College net for 63:50 tonight with one save in the second half.
Kristen
Moore (Newnan, Ga.) saw 26:10 on her Senior Night
tacking up a save for the Bobcats.
Despite a low scoring first half, the Bobcats netted five goals
after half time. At 51:42, senior Jeni Day (Marietta,
Ga.) sailed one in after a pass got by Jowers. Ferrell and
Erika
Kolodin (Acworth, Ga.) hooked up to assist with Day's
fifth goal of the season. The assist was Kolodin's first of the
year. Less than three minutes later, in a fast break straight down
the middle Ferrell's incoming pass found the foot of Megan McAlpin
(Newnan, Ga.), netting her fourth this season.
After 58:19 of play, Chelsea Bettis came in for Clayton State
relieving Jowers. Bettis played 31:41 allowing three goals and
saving two.
In the 74th minute, a foul on Clayton State gave Georgia College
a free kick taken by Kelli McLane
(Lawrenceville, Ga.). She launched it pass Bettis to score
the fourth goal of the night and her third for the season.
The last two goals of the night belonged to Ferrell. Her first
goal at 78:07 was off a free kick, the Bobcats second free kick
goal of the night. In the 82nd minute, Ferrell struck again with an
assist by Day when the keeper was taken out of the play.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 29 on the road
against North Georgia College & State University with a
kick-off time of 4:30 p.m.
